AXIS developed the street planning and detail building designs for Phase 1 of this important site extending the picturesque town of Lewes. Working collaboratively with two other practices to deliver the overall master plan.
Built on the non-functional flood plain to the River Ouse and incorporating substantial flood defences and a large above ground car park serving the town and new community, without either of these potentially prominent features impacting on the views of the whole town from the South Downs.
At the time of gaining planning approval this was the largest project proposed in a national park. The North Street Quarter will provide over 400 homes, a health centre, car parking for 700 cars, an extra-care facility, young persons sheltered accommodation, community work spaces, commercial space and a performance space for local creative groups.
